6.5M Earthquake Strikes Near Sumatra

This 6.5M earthquake occurred 62 miles off the coast of Sumatra. It was 13.7 miles deep, and 100 miles west of Bengkulu.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue a warning after the quake, but said there was a very small possibility of a local tsunami that could affect coasts. They said that authorities in the region near the epicenter should be made aware of this possibility.

Tsunami Hits Hawaii and California

Post Chilean earthquake tsunami waves have begun to strike parts of the U.S. Hilo, Hawaii was hit initially by an estimated five foot wave, and the coast of Ventura County, California has seen an estimated three foot swell doing modest damage to buoys located there. 8.8M Earthquake Stikes Chile

An 8.8M earthquake struck Chile early Saturday morning. The quake's epicenter was located near the town of Concepcion, 212 miles from the capital of Santiago.

A tsunami warning was issued for Chile and Peru, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

7.0M Earthquake Strikes off of Okinawa, Japan

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Japan's Ryukyu Islands early Saturday.

Soon after the 5:31 a.m. (12:31 p.m. Friday PST) quake, Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory, recommending that people on the Okinawa Islands evacuate from the seashore. The advisory also affected the Amami Islands and Tokara Islands.

The agency said the expected tsunami height was about 0.5 meters, or 20 inches
